Connecting potential to possibilities

Avenues Montreal empowers out-of-high-school youth (17-35) by connecting them to community and public support services through a youth-centered, care-driven approach. We support youth in recognizing their strengths and aspirations, and in building meaningful connections with community services.

Our Mission

Every youth, without exception, deserves access to services centered on care and community.

Our Vision

Our Story

Avenues Montreal grew from a simple yet difficult truth witnessed time and again by educators in the EMSB Outreach Network: when school ends, support often does too. For many young people—especially those navigating hardship—that moment can feel like being set adrift. School staff watched former students lose their footing, become isolated, and struggle to move forward without the relationships and care that had once steadied them.

In the summer of 2021, that concern found a voice. Sitting in a park, John and Colin reflected on former students and basketball players who were still searching for stability beyond school. One question lingered: what if support didn’t stop at graduation? Soon after, Rob and Jenn joined the conversation, bringing shared conviction and momentum. What began as a few voices became a collective effort—and in January 2024, Avenues Montreal was officially established.

Today, Avenues exists to offer continuity where there was once a gap—to walk with youth as they transition from school into adulthood. Through individualized support and strong community partnerships, Avenues helps youth build confidence, connection, and a future they believe in.

Our Values & Approach

Avenues recognizes that access alone is not enough. Youth do not thrive simply by being referred to services—they thrive when they are supported, understood, and empowered to navigate systems with confidence and dignity. Our organization is rooted in the community and grounded in frontline experience.

Avenues was founded and developed by educators who maintain strong ties with youth facing complex needs. The Avenues approach reflects a firsthand understanding of existing service gaps, and represents a deliberate effort to provide relationship-based, holistic and care-driven support.

Our work is grounded in mutual recognition, placing care, respect and esteem at the core of our practice. These values show up in our daily interactions: how we listen, how we accompany, and how we follow through. We work one‑on‑one with participants to reduce barriers to services, build confidence and self‑advocacy, and strengthen connections to community resources.

We use Community Asset Mapping as a participatory, strength‑based practice to help youth recognize and build on what already exists in their communities. Alongside a facilitator, youth identify people, places, organizations, and informal networks that can support their goals and well‑being.

  • Increase sustained youth participation in supportive programs, services, and community life.

  • Build confidence, skills, and agency to support successful transitions into adulthood.

  • Strengthen lasting community connections through meaningful relationships and coordinated support.
